I often wondered why I never really wanted to 'grow up' to fulfill the 'expectations', and that when people tried to thrust those expectations upon me, I would always openly resist but of course, as we all know that it is often the subtle as well as the overt pressures that force us to conform.

I do sometimes wonder - although it sounds horribly, sophomorically facile and shallow - just what it is the Republican Gender police are running away from within themselves?
